These are the stories that drove conversation this week.

The governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose has said that he has no hard feelings against President Muhammadu Buhari, that his regular attacks – criticism – is good for democracy.

He also mentioned that he would have liked if the President had congratulated him on his birthday – which was celebrated during the week.


The governor of Anambra, Willie Obiano, after he cast his vote during the elections in the state said he would win by a landslide.

He actually won the election by a landslide.

During the same election, the candidate of the APC said, “the Police have allowed themselves to be used as a tool of oppression and suppression in the hands of the ruling party in the state” – he was making complaints about how the Police were “harassing members of the APC“.

After the announcement of the result by INEC, the PDP candidate, Oseloka Obaze first came out to say he rejects the outcome but later made a u-turn and congratulated Obiano.

APGA, the ruling party, commended President Buhari for ensuring that the election went on smoothly, without interference.

The success of the Anambra elections has now cast major doubt on the supposed strength of IPOB.


The former President, Goodluck Jonathan, as he celebrated his birthday on November 20, received accolades from different quarters.

The ruling APC said, “We join well-wishers in celebrating a statesman whose life and politics have been defined by patriotism and humility.

His party, the PDP said, “…you have written your name in gold in the hearts of all Nigerians and you will be remembered as one of the greatest leaders of Africa.‎

President Muhammadu Buhari also wished Jonathan a happy birthday.


A former vice president, regarded as a veteran politician and strong Democrat, Alex Ekwueme passed away week after an illness that led him to London, November 19.

In reaction, the former governor of Delta, James Ibori has said Nigerians are “shedding Crocodile tears over the death of Ekwueme.


The 2017 edition of the American Music Awards took place on Sunday hosted by Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross.

Bruno Mars won the artiste of the year while Diana Ross was honoured for her lifetime achievement.

The 37-year leader of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has finally resigned – after much pressure.

He has since been granted immunity from prosecution, alongside his wife, Grace.

Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sworn in as Zimbabwe’s new President.


The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday released the results of the 2017 WASSCE for private candidates.

Out of all candidates that wrote the examination, 34,664 obtained a minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and General Mathematics, representing 26.01 percent.
