“This is unfair!” – Students threaten to sue JAMB for N1 billion over low scores

by Lekan Olanrewaju

Just as results of the just concluded UTME examinations have been released, revealing that only 3 candidates scored above 300, five candidates have threatened to take the examinations body to court.

Speaking through their lawyer, Babajide Lawson, the candidates expressed dissatisfaction with their results, accusing the body of substituting their actual results for ‘random’ scores, and threatening to sue for N1 billion in damages.

“This is a no contest issue,” Lawson said. “Thank God for the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act for which we are asking JAMB to release the examination script of these students to the public to see and let a competent court look into the matter”

“JAMB cannot expect students who sat down and wrote accurate test exams to believe they performed woefully to just sit down and fold their arms,” he continued. “This is a challenge to the exam body to prove itself to Nigerians that it is truly fair and honest, but this must be proven at a law court and we are suing for corrections and damages”

One of the students involved, Amoo Olatunde, insisted that his result was sold or given to someone else, and this was not the first time.

“This is unfair that my result was sold or given out to someone else because I come from a poor family,” he said. “Same was done to me last year but I won’t allow it to go this year.”
