TICKER: #TheTechWarsGoOn: Samsung ‘has no intention’ to settle patent suits with Apple

South Korean electronics maker Samsung has said that it will not follow HTC’s lead and settle its patent lawsuits with Apple.

HTC and Apple recently reached a settlement in their patent disputes, which had been running for two-and-a-half years.

HTC is thought to have paid Apple between five dollars and 20 dollars per handset that it makes using Android, as part of a ten-year licence agreement.

According to the Telegraph, when asked whether Samsung would seek a similar settlement, J K Shin, head of mobile for Samsung, they have ‘no such intention.’

Apple and Samsung are involved in patent lawsuits around the world, with each company accusing the other of infringing on patented designs and technology.

In August, Samsung lost a US patent case to Apple and was ordered to pay its rival 1.05 billion dollars in damages for copying features of the iPad and iPhone in its Galaxy range of devices.

Samsung, which is the world’s top mobile phone maker, is appealing the ruling.
