Today’s Daily Brief: Dan Orbih says Oshiomhole killed industries in Edo, Trouble breaks out at PDP campaign rally, David Mark says GEJ is the best candidate, and more

EDO State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the state governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, of carrying out what it described as “as total killing of industries in the state.”

It also accused the state government of planning to sack over 9,000 teachers on its pay roll after the general elections due to paucity of funds, adding that 50 teaching staff of Institute of Continuing Education, ICE, Benin, were casual workers and have not been paid for 25 months contrary to the governor’s promise that there would be no place for casuals in his government.

Chief Dan Orbih, state chairman of the party, made the allegations during the party’s campaign rallies at Irrua, Ewohimi and Ehor, in Esan Central, Esan South-East and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas respectively.

Trouble broke out at the presidential campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibrahim Babangida Square, Bauchi, as irate youths stoned dignitaries with harmful objects.

During the course of the rally on Thursday, January 22, the youth reportedly pelted the politicians with hammers, stones and slippers while also destroying some of the canopies and plastic chairs at the venue.

As the presidential election draws closer, a Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term will turn lives around, adding that the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, General Mohammed Buhari  was no match for Jonathan.

Onuesoke, who addressed Urhobo youths from Udu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Uvwie Local Government Areas of Delta State on the need to cast their votes en-mass  for President   Jonathan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa,  rated Jonathan higher than Buhari as President of Nigeria.

He said: “Name it, is it economic achievements, rule of law, human right, education or age? Jonathan is better positioned than Buhari to rule this country.”

According to the Senate President, David Mark, President Goodluck Jonathan is the best man to move the nation forward.

Mark made the comments at the zonal campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Oturkpo, Benue State, on Thursday, January 22, saying: “Jonathan remains the best that can move the nation forward.”

David Mark pointed out the achievements of the party since 1999, while also urging them to back the party up by voting all candidates of PDP in the forthcoming elections saying, “together we shall move Benue forward.”

Nigerian youths under the aegis of Coalition of Nigerian Youth Organizations on Thursday condemned recent politically motivated attacks including the recent stoning of the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina and Bauchi states.

They also condemned the burning of some state offices of the All Progressives Congress.

The groups expressed support for the Abuja peace accord signed by the 14 presidential candidates last week.

Speaking on behalf of the groups at a press conference in Abuja, Chief Ezekiel Kuje urged Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used by self serving individuals to cause violence.
