Every day on the Nigerian internet, there are people who keep our eyes glued to our phone screens as we read their rants, opinions, perspectives on political and social matters, etc. Sometimes, they are just downright ridiculous. We make it our job to take down the names of these noisemakers.
Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari declared that June 12 will be the new Democracy Day in honour of M.K.O Abiola. And, without wasting time, reactions have come in.
Here’s our list from today:
Those in support of the declaration:
1. Ayodele Fayose
MKO Abiola is worthy to be honoured and we in Ekiti honoured him with a public holiday on June 12, 2017, we will do it again this year. However, the greatest honour anyone can bestow on MKO Abiola is total respect for the rule of law and conduct of free, fair & credible elections. pic.twitter.com/VSmxe9FNb4

Then he says again:
President Buhari should go the extra mile and declare late MKO Abiola as winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. That is the only "right and legitimate step to take".

3. Shehu Sani
The official recognition and honor accorded to Chief MKO,Chief Gani and the June 12 pro democracy struggle by the PMB Govt is commendable. Our 1993 mass action against military dictatorship has been crowned.A fierce battle we fought & a recognition we humbly appreciate.

4. Omojuwa
June 12 is bigger than Buhari. It is a privilege for him to be the president that finally acknowledges the date as Democracy Day. This is Justice. And it is well served. We can go back to asking about Buhari’s achievements but this one, leave it, you can’t knock it!

5. Esther Agbarakwe
On my TL, the majority of those I am seeing opposing this June 12 honor to MKO are those from South East. Why? Why can we just be happy collectively for once for a family that gave up so much for us.

Those against the declaration:

Buhari thinks making this June12 move will win the Yorubás vote.. Dumb old man, I pray Yorubás dnt fall for that shit https://t.co/A6es4APtH1

Conferring GCFR on Late Abiola is a game to checkmate the influence of Obasanjo in Yorubaland…
U opposed GEJ for naming Unilag after Abiola but rejoice at PMB's theatrics with June 12. My frnd prefers posthumously award while d sharp guys enjoyed their virgins here on earth.— Avyen@eded dodo (@engrdodo44) June 7, 2018
8. Abdulrashid
This is how Buhari diverted you people's attention with this june 12 thing and we have forgotten the real issues facing us
Even @nassnigeria has fallen for it— Rashid, M.Sc.,🇳🇬 🇩🇪 🇱🇺 (@Rashiid9) June 7, 2018
Someone has a question:
9. Remi Sonaiya
This posthumous honour done to #MKOAbiola means that the Nigerian Govt at the highest level now acknowledges that there was a travesty of justice over #June12. Now that the victim is finally getting "justice", what happens to the perpetrators of the injustice? @MBuhari
