1. Budget padding: Jibrin goes hard on Dogara
The former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Jibrin Abdulmummin, is a scorned man on a mission. This week saw him make more revealing accusations against the Speaker of the House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara, and other Principal officers of the House.
However, Jibrin has soft-pedaled in the last few days following the instruction of his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).
2. Rio Olympics begins
The 2016 edition of the Olympics, hosted in the Brazilian city of Rio, has begun. Despite fears over the condition of things in Brazil, the games started off on a pleasant note and is progressing steadily.
Sadly -or shamefully, depending on who is speaking – the Nigerian team wore their track suit to the opening ceremony.
3. CBN subsidizes dollar for pilgrims
This week, Nigerians learnt that true to popular opinions: religion is a very profitable economic venture as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) did for pilgrims what it is yet to do for business owners and students.
4. I only advised Buhari, I did not attack him – Father Mbaka
Popular Catholic Priest, Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has reaffirmed his position as a political evangelical. Mbaka in a message this week criticized President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the Priest later released a statement saying that contrary to media reports, he only “advised the President on being careful about how he appoints people to prominent positions.”
5. Buhari, Jonathan meets at Presidential Villa
While the aides of President Buhari throw accusations at his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, both men met on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to discuss Jonathan’s recent international engagements and future ones.
6. Budget padding is not an offence, I won’t resign – Dogara
Say what you might, but the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Yakubu Dogara, this week made it unequivocally clear that budget padding isn’t crime and he won’t resign.
The Speaker doesn’t know what budget padding means either.
“I am lawyer and the speaker, and I have never heard of the word padding. What does ‘padding’ mean?” Dogara asked a reporter.
7. Obasanjo spotted at PDP convention
You know what they say about like terms attracting?
Well former President Olusegun Obasanjo was spotted at the Peoples Democratic Party convention this week. But he gave a reasons for being there -and it wasn’t because he still has feeling for his former party.
8. Nigerian’s football team stranded in America
Due to some mix-up, Nigeria’s football team for the Olympics was stranded at the Atlanta, USA. The team was later rescued by Delta Airways.
Six hours later, the boys made Nigeria proud by walloping Japan 5:4 in their first game at this year’s Olympics.
9. After the election, everybody moved on… but not Fayose – Aisha Buhari
After making it clear to Nigerians that she too can fight dirty on social media, Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, this week visited the USA, effectively shutting down the allegations that she was wanted in the USA for her alleged role in a corruption case.
She also had some words for Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose.
10. The Voice Nigeria comes to an end
After trilling Nigerians for weeks, The Voice Nigeria came to an end on Sunday with actress, A’rese emerging as the winner of the reality TV show.
