President Donald Trump through repeated tweets this afternoon has doubled down on his weekend lash at NFL players and managements over the kneeling gesture of the players towards the USA flag during the National Anthem.

Trump heavily criticized the action and called on club owners to sanction their players for the act. The President also attributed the so called low turn out of fans at the weekend games to the incident, claiming fans expressed a show of love for the country.

In the first tweet, Trump wrote: “So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won’t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!”

In a subsequent tweet, the president wrote, “Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!”

And while expressing the puerility of the kneeling act, Trump wrote: “The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!”

The kneeling gesture towards the US Flag while reciting the Nation Anthem in sport games which was demonstrated over the weekend when Oakland A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell kneeled during the anthem before a game against the Texas Rangers, took its root 13 months ago from a preseason game which saw Colin Kaepernick, then with the San Francisco 49ers, kneeled in an attempt to provoke debate over race and police brutality.

Trump described the act as a disrespect to the country and to the American flag.

When asked by reporters if he was inflaming racial tensions by criticising protesting players who are almost all black, Trump replied, “This has nothing to do with race. I never said anything about race. This has nothing to do with race or anything else. This has to do with respect for our country and respect for our flag.”
