Two female suicide bombers were shot dead on Sunday while attempting to attack a checkpoint in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, SaharaReporters reports.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Borno Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Victor Isuku.
Isuku said three bystanders were injured in the attack.
“About 2030hrs yesterday, two female suicide bombers were halted to stop for a routine check at Geleri village, which is about 5km to Muna Garage on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
“One of the suicide bombers detonated an IED strapped to her body, killing her and her accomplice, whose IED vest did not explode. Three residents of the area were however injured, the command’s EOD unit rushed to the scene to render the unexploded IED safe,” Isuku said.
