The Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar, said it will deploy more officers to go after human right violators especially those who are in the habit of bullying their spouses.
Inspector General Abubakar made this statement at a briefing with journalists after a meeting with senior police officers at the  police headquarters Abuja saying that more police officers will be trained to safeguard human rights adding that they will ensure officer handling cases of violation do not violate the rights of suspects and detainees, especially in cases of domestic violence against women.
Nigerian Eye reports:
He said the police will beam searchlight on those who beat their spouses adding that “You cannot batter your wife because we marry her.”
Though the details of how police will fish out bully husbands have not been made known but the IG was hopeful that the new measure will reduce domestic violence as well as human rights abuse by policemen.
