6 soldiers injured, 20 insurgents killed in Borno ambush

Six soldiers attached to the 121 Task Force Battalion Pulka, who were providing security to the Caretaker Chairman of Gwoza local government area of Borno State, Hon Saeed Salisu Sambo have been injured.

Some Boko Haram insurgents ambushed the chairman’s convoy around Bama town while on his way from Gwoza to Maiduguri.

While speaking to newsmen, Hon. Saeed said 20 of the insurgents died during the ambush.

He said, “The incident happened at about 5km into Bama town, 10am yesterday, (Saturday) after living Nguro-Soye.“

He also said the insurgents detonated an IED, followed by sporadic gunshots which was repelled by the gallant soldiers.

“Six (6) soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries, and more than twenty of heinous actors (BH) were killed by the rocket launcher fired by troops as I vividly saw them running away, as the military engageed them in response,” the council boss said.
