NASS crisis: Speaker, Deputy Speaker, APC Chairman and Osun Governor met privately yesterday

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun had a private meeting on Friday, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun at the APC national secretariat.

It is believed that Lasun may have been pressured by his State Governor, Aregbesola, on the instance of the party, to resign his position for their to be peace in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Vanguard reports that the possibility of his resignation was discussed at a closed door meeting.

Dogara and Lasun had emerged as speaker and deputy speaker of the House on June 9, although the party had through a mock election in Abuja on June 6 endorsed the candidatures of Hon. Femi Gabajabiamila and Hon. Mohammed Mong-unu for the positions.

Lasun’s resignation is reported to be seen as a show loyalty to the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

At the end of the meeting, the trio of Aregbesola, Dogara and Lasun refused to comment on what was discussed at the party’s secretariat.

Oyegun would however, reveal to journalists that the leadership of the House as well as Aregbesola were summoned to the secretariat as part of the ongoing efforts to restore peace before the resumption of the national assembly on Tuesday.

When asked if the party had asked Lasun to step down as part of the new peace deal,Oyegun said: “No, the party has  not said such thing, we only called a meeting with the Speaker, his deputy and South-west governors so as to try and sort out the outstanding issues in the House of Representatives. We are still holding consultations and hopefully there will be a breakthrough soon.”

  1. Am shocked and disappointed in Gov Aregbesola’s attitude yes you are an APC Governor but mind you sir that your state is burning no salaries, our young girls are into prostitution, our young men are into robbery and you still have the time to attend to National Issues in NASS what a Country

Am appealing to you Mr Governor to please fashion out ways to clear the debts you are owing and save this state from further embarrassment.

ABAT[ Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ] that you all claim to be your mentor should please as a matter of urgency address these issues

    Thank you
