U.S. President Barack Obama has congratulated President-elect Donald Trump via telephone on his victory, according to a White House statement.
According to the statement, Obama also spoke with Hillary Clinton and “expressed admiration for the strong campaign she waged throughout the country. ”
The statement also said Obama will speak at the White House on Wednesday to “discuss the election results and what steps we can take as a country to come together after this hard-fought election season.”
President Obama also invited Trump to talk about transition planning, which his team has been working on for nearly a year.
“Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the President identified at the beginning of the year and a meeting with the President-elect is the next step,” the statement read.
