Victims of Zamfara blasphemy killings are ‘suspects’ – Police

The Zamfara State Police Command on Wednesday said its investigation has shown that the 8 persons who were killed during the blasphemy killings were part of the suspects.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Muhammad Shehu and obtained by NAN in Gusau, the police said 14 persons have been identified as perpetrators of the killings.

Recall that a student of the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara was beaten to a pulp by a mob on August 22 for alleged blasphemy against the Prophet of islam.

A man identified as Tajudeen was reported to have rushed the student to an hospital, which infuriated the mob.

The mob then marched to his house and set it ablaze killing 8 persons.

According to the police statement, the eight persons that died during the crisis were among the suspects that were discovered in the course of police investigation.

The statement also said one Bashir Adamu from Kuryan Madaro of Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of the state had been arrested and charged to court over his involvement in the crisis.

It also said another suspect who is currently receiving treatment would be charged to court.
