PDP vs PDP: We have the first casualty

by Stanley Azuakola

Alhaji Habu Fari, the principal private secretary to the PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur, has been sacked. This makes him the first casualty in the ongoing battle for supremacy between Tukur and Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the party’s national secretary.

Fari had been engaged in war of words with the PDP National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, over allegations that he [Fari] has been usurping the roles of the National Secretary. The public spat got to a head when Fari described Oyinlola as “over ambitious.”

Reports say that Tukur fired Alhaji Fari for being rude to Oyinlola, and even signed the sack letter himself. What makes Fari’s sack somewhat surprising is that he always insisted that he had clearance from the national chairman to respond to Oyinlola. Speculations are rife that the National Chairman was under intense pressure from some members of the National Working Committee, who insisted on Fari’s sack.

It would be recalled that the National Publicity secretary had on Tuesday announced to reporters that there was no power tussle between Tukur and Oyinlola, pinning the issues arising on administrative lapses which, he said, have now been resolved.
