Former Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Guterres was on Monday sworn in as the General-Secretary of the United Nations (UN) by the General Assembly.
Guterres vowed to carry out reforms aimed at improving the world body.
He promised to “exercise in all loyalty, discretion and conscience” his duties when he resumes office in January 1, 2017.
“The UN must be ready to change,” Guterres said.
There had been reports that Nigeria’s Minister of Environment will be appointed as Guterres’ deputy General-Secretary.
