APC chieftains, senators reportedly meet over Saraki’s replacement

Leadership of the All Progressives Congress are said to have begun plans to replace the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

APC leaders have reportedly lined up some senators to take Saraki’s position, as a result of his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

According to Sunday Sun, some Senators met with some APC chieftains at the Asokoro District of Abuja, last Wednesday to lobby for the position and consider their options.

Members of the Senate Unity Forum, who are opposed to Saraki’s emergence as Senate President, were present at the meeting.

Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on Works, Senator Barnabas Gemade, puportedly chaired the meeting.

The report stated that the conclusion of their meeting was to retain the Senate Presidency seat to the North-Central.

“It was agreed that the APC should produce the Senate President and the deputy Senate President and the need for all members of the party to close ranks in the chamber.

“We also agreed that the position should remain in the North-central because we still have ranking Senators from the zone…We will, abide strictly with the Senate rules in the choice of new leaders.”
