So yes, they get married in one movie. The sequel gets announced, and shortly after, they announce they are getting married for real.

We said it before that The Wedding Party 2 would make buckets of cash, but Banky W and Adesua Etomi’s engagement has just given the film the sort of PR boost you can’t pay for. The film has been trending all day (since the Instagram posts announcing the engagement) and stars of the film have chimed in with their congratulations. Even one of the Executive Producers had a special message of her own for the happy couple. Hard to say whether it’s all deliberate but it doesn’t really matter. It’s a built in publicity engine that’s going to soldier on, fueled by the outpouring of goodwill for both stars by a public who is apparently hopelessly in love with the idea of them as a couple.

It also speaks to the dearth of Nollywood power couples. Seriously, besides Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs, can we think of any other couple? It’s no wonder Nigerian cyberspace has been set ablaze by the announcement.

Either way, we say a big congratulations to Adesua and Banky.
