Up to three people were reported killed in an explosion which occurred at an outdoor relaxation spot in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State on Thursday.
Police spokesman, Amos Olaoye confirmed the incident saying, “There was an explosion at a beer garden in the Dorawa area of the city.”
The explosion occurred around 7:40 pm at Dorowa Ward, off Barde Way in Jalingo. Dorowa is a popular drinking joint in the town where mainly local alcoholic drinks are sold.
Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo said several injured people were rushed to the hospital for treatment yesterday night.
Dr. Umaru Yakubu, a Medical Officer in the hospital said one person was confirmed dead while three others, who he said are in critical condition, were rushed to the theatre to be operated upon.
He also said that eight others whose injuries were mild were receiving treatment at the accident and emergency ward of the hospital.
The Boko Haram Islamic sect have occasionally targeted populated relaxation centres in many parts of northern Nigeria.
