During the presentation of the 2016 budget to the National Assembly, President Muhammadu Buhari, committed a protocol blunder.
While reading out the acknowledgements, the President rightly started with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo after which he acknowledged Nasarawa state governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura.
Ordinarily the President should acknowledge both the Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, after acknowledging the Vice President.
But that didn’t happen, and it appears the President himself may be a victim of the error made by the office of his chief of protocol.
According to Sahara Reporters, staffers at the presidency are blaming the slip on Lawal Kazaure, the president’s chief protocol officer, who’s a former deputy director at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
A presidency source was quoted to have said that Kazaure recently transferred several officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs out of the Villa and replaced them with NIA officials, who are not conversant with the order of protocol.
