A young girl in Delta has been accused of theft after she was said to have been found with money belonging to a fellow church member.
Christy Okporomo, is said to have stolen N3,500 during the Tuesday evening mass at St. Bosco Catholic Church in Asaba, the state capital.
The woman whose money was stolen raised an alarm when she attempted to pay offering and couldn’t find it.
Leadership reports:
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the suspect perfected the act during offertory when the victim left her bag to give her offering.
Church sources said the female parishioner discovered that her bag containing her purse was missing when she wanted to go for the second collection and she raised the alarm which attracted other parishioners including church wardens to the scene.
The church wardens were said to have begun a search for the missing money during which the suspect confessed to the crime.
The suspect was said to have confessed to stealing the money for her up keep, saying she took to stealing after the demise of her parents.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP, the Parish Priest of the church, Rev Fr. Martins Oji said the suspect was pardoned after she admitted to have taken the money from the parishioner’s bag.
While appealing to parishioners to be wary of thieves among them, the parish priest disclosed that measures had been put in place to check the stealing habit of some parishioners in the church.
