On May 27, 2016, Cubing Africa held the second annual edition of its Experience the Rubik’s Cube Inter-School Competition as part of LTV Children’s Day celebration.
The Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D puzzle game with the aim of matching the colours of nine minicubes on each side of the cube.
It develops mathematics, thought processing and reasoning skills among its players. Participants from various schools in Lagos and Ogun States competed in both the Junior (Primary Schools) and Senior (Secondary Schools) Categories to win the star prize (Desktop Computers) donated by the Biofem Group, BioSea Cod Liver Oil brand.
The following schools made it to the final:
Junior Category:
1) Deo Les Path-Finders School, Mowe
2) Kemson Schools International, Ikoyi
Senior Category:
1) Albesta Academy, Ibeju-Lekki
2) Bade Unik Secondary School, Sagamu
3) Christ The King Catholic College, Odolewu, Ijebu-Ode
4) Deo Les Path-Finders Secondary School, Mowe
5) Igbobi College, Yaba
6) King’s College, Lagos
7) Hebron Heights College, Igbogbo.
In the Junior Category, Kemson Schools International came first – 3 representatives of the school solved 10 Rubik’s cubes in 9.21 minutes.
They were closely followed by Deo Les Path-Finders Private School (represented by 2 participants) in 9.57 minutes.
In the Senior Category, Christ The King Catholic College (represented by 4 participants instead of 5 participants) solved 20 Rubik’s cubes in 3.57 minutes.
They were followed by Albesta Academy – 5.34 minutes, and Bade Unik College – 5.59 minutes.
In the Individual competition (Best of the Best) 2 participants each from all the schools were made to face the heat.
Anuoluwa Akinola (Kemson Schools International) came first in 1.45 minutes; Akindele Akinola (Kemson Schools International) came second – 1.53 minutes closely followed by Anuoluwapo Ajayi (Deo Les Private School) – 1.54 minutes.
Ibiyemi John (Christ The King Catholic College) topped the pack of Secondary School participants – 35.12 seconds. He was followed by Babalola Awe (Albesta Academy) – 44.64 seconds. Idiaghe Paul (Christ The King Catholic College) came third in 46.59 seconds.
All the participants were given Certificate of Participation by the Director, Cubing Africa Mrs Kemi Awe, while the winners got various prizes ranging from desktop computers courtesy of the Biosea Cod Liver Oil brand, to educational tablets and android phones.
Cubing Africa Education Development (CAED) Limited is a joint venture between Kupendeza Concerns and LLC Gravitas Limited.
Cubing Africa Education Development Limited aims to promote and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills amongst Nigerian students, and having this competition is one of the ways to showcase these abilities while at the same time, planning to extend the competition and gear these skills towards adults.
