Resident Doctors agree to suspend strike… after being sacked by FG

Following a meeting with stakeholders in the health sector on Tuesday evening, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has agreed to suspend its strike action after a meeting with other health sector stakeholders on Tuesday.

Hours after the Resident Doctors commenced the much publicised strike action, the Federal Government responded by sacking all of them and declared their positions vacant.

The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, issued a directive asking Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of tertiary institutions owned by federal government to immediately fill-up openings created by the absence of striking resident doctors.

Subsequently, the leadership of the association appealed to its members to hold off on the strike action until the next meeting scheduled for July 14.

NARD arrived at this decision after a meeting between resident doctors and other stakeholders – which was organised by Yakubu Dogàra, speaker of the house of representatives.
