Double trouble: Murder suspect sentenced to prison for stealing vehicle spare part

A 22-year-old man  has been jailed for two years after he was found guilty for stealing the brain box of a Toyota Coaster bus belonging to the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Ikechukwu Nwakoro was also charged with  murder by the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court.

The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Ikechukwu Nwakoro, m, and others at large on the 18th day of July, 2013 at about 0330hrs at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Alaka Estate, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony, to wit; stealing was contrary to Section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.”

According to reports,  the suspect was also standing trial for murder charges at the High Court which he pleaded guilty to.

The police said he was apprehended at Alaka Estate area of Lagos on July 18, after stealing the brain box estimated at N200,000.

Magistrate, S.O Solabo, who held brief for the trial magistrate, while Demi Ajayi, convicted him of the charges.

“The defendant ad is hereby sentenced to one year on each charge to make two years. The terms should run consecutively,” she said.
