Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, says the first Nigerian who got infected with the Ebola virus disease has been released from quarantine.

While addressing journalists, Chukwu said the patient, whose identity has not been revealed, was asked to go home after all the necessary medical examinations were carried out.

He said, “The total number of Ebola cases now stands at 12, while the number of deaths remains four. The people under surveillance in Lagos is now 189, while six are in Enugu, in south-east Nigeria.”

The minister also said that the Ebola drug, Nano Silva, which was sent in by a Nigerian scientist in the Diaspora, did not meet the requirements of the National Health Research ethics code.

The discharged patient is believed to be among those the Minister had earlier said were doing well and showing signs of recovery on Thursday, 14 August, at a press conference in Abuja.

Meanwhile, YNaija has found that the released patient is not Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh, of First Consultant’s as being reported by some news platforms. Our sources say the released patient was a nurse. Dr Ameyo is still under quarantine at the time of filing this report.

According to the World Health Organization, this recent outbreak of Ebola outbreak, has killed 1,145 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Nigeria.
