Ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local council elections, billed to take place this morning, officials and ad-hoc staff of the FCT Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has began distributing election materials in the different council of the FCT.
The six area council where the elections will be holding today are: Karu, AMAC, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari and Kwali.
In what many describe as a departure from INEC’s previous patterns, officials of INEC and the electoral materials arrived at the different polling centers as early as 7:45 am on Saturday morning, with that of Kabusa Ward of Abuja Municipal Area Council of the FCT arriving at 7:38.
Also present at the poll centers are agents of the different political factions. Noticeable amongst them were the agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
This will be a test of strength of the two heavyweight parties as they battle it out for the FCT, the seat of the Nigerian government.
So far there has been no reports of electoral malfeasance that have marred the different elections held this year, as accreditation and voting has already begun in Kubwa area council.
One big problem that will most probably discolor the election will be voters apathy as the turn out at the different areas have been low, especially at Bwari Central where only four individuals came out to vote.
