Last night during the ‘Best of Nollywood’ Awards, which held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, the host governor publicly insulted the Nollywood practitioners in attendance without minding whose ox was gored.

Some of the practitioners in attendance were Liz Benson, Kenneth Okonkwo, Shola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot, Moses Inwang, Dickson Iroegbu, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, Patience Ozokwor, Elvis Chuks, AY, Iyabo Ojo,  and Emem Isong.

While giving his speech at the event, he clearly stated that “You people in Nollywood are products of circumstances/necessity. You actors study sciences, law, medicine, accounting and all sorts but because you couldn’t find jobs,  you embraced Nollywood. The only reason you are in Nollywood is because you couldn’t find other jobs, if you had, would you be in Nollywood today ” Rotimi jokingly said.A joke that many of the practitioners didn’t find funny.

Not stopping there, he further revealed that he “cheerfully gives veteran actresses Joke Silva and Kate Henshaw bags of money whenever they visit Rivers state.” “We all know I went into politics for money and yes I am a cheerful giver and I don’t hesitate to give them money whenever they visit as a matter of fact, I was the one that encouraged Kate Henshaw to go into politics.” he allegedly stated, after which he presented an award to veteran actress Liz Benson.

Two sources in the Actors’ Guild (AGN) confirmed this.
