‘I chose Bakare as my running mate in 2011 to prove I’m not a bigot’ – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, revealed that he choose the founder of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare as his running mate for the presidential election in 2011 to prove he is not a religious bigot.

“One of the four attempts to get here was with Tunde Bakare, when people said I’m a religious bigot, I decided to take a pastor so that I can shut their mouths up,” the President said while speaking at the Katsina Economic Summit. “So, Tunde Bakare, has decided to be with me all the time,”

The President had vied for the office for four different times -in 2003 and 2007 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), in 2011 under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), before winning in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
