“I never requested for the presence of the military,” – Governor Fashola

by ‘Ifreke Inyang

Governor Tunde Fashola of Lagos State met with elders at Tunde Braithwaite’s house yesterday evening, after they were attacked with tear gas during their #OccupyNigeria protests in some parts of the state.

The protests commenced at The State House where the elders and youth were received by the Deputy Speaker of National Assembly. Then they were confronted by the Police who said that they didn’t have a right to protest. Then things got ugly. They fired tear gas at them causing pandemonium. Soldiers also blocked all roads leading to Gani Fawehinmi Park, apparently an order from Governor Fashola.

But the Governor flatly denied this. “I heard a rumour today that the Defence Minister said I requested for the presence of the military in Lagos State. I never did, let them prove any proof that I did,” he said.
