Ishaku is Nigeria’s worst governor, as Tambuwal takes top spot | YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for governors

Taraba governor, Darius Ishaku is the worst Nigerian governor in the weekly YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for governors. Ishaku who was previously ranked in the 18th position fell off the pecking order due to the massacre of some Fulani residents by some yet to be identified persons in the Mambilla area of the state.

The situation made some Fulani elders to call Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to intervene, by declaring a state of emergency in the state.

Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal upstaged his Kaduna counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai to the top spot. His rise is due to his government’s decision to offer free premarital counselling and screening for Sickle Cell disease, HIV, and Hepatitis. Tambuwal also inched a step closer to cementing his position as governor, when the Federal High Court upheld his election.

In the week under review, Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike sacked all his commissioners, just days after engaging in a messy war of words with his predecessor and current Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi. While speaking Wike said, “His (Amaechi) anger is that I have been given the name, Mr. Project. I came to serve the people. You are comparing your eight years with my two years. Anybody aspiring to be governor should be allowed to tell Rivers people what he wants to do. You (Amaechi) cannot be governor again.”

On why he sacked the commissioners, the governor gave very vague reasons for his decision.
