The judge who petitioned Aregbesola, is in troubled waters

Justice Folahanmi Oloyede may have gotten herself into a fix, over the petition she wrote against Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Oloyede had accused the governor of corruption and called on the House of Assembly to commence impeachment process against him.

The Osun State House of Assembly panel which had initially investigated her petition against Aregbesola, has now recommended disciplinary action against the judge by the State Judicial Service Commission.

Oh what a sharp turnaround.

The Chairman of the panel, Adegboye Akintunde, presented the report at the plenary sitting of the House of Assembly on Wednesday, August 5.

Akintunde stated that the allegations of corruption contained in the petition were based on rumour and hearsay.

The panel accused the judge of violating the code of conduct of judicial officers which forbade them from speaking publicly on issues.

As if the lawmakers were not aware of this fact before.

According to the panel, Oloyede, being a serving judge in Osun State, was not qualified to forward the petition to the lawmakers.

Furthermore, the panel said that Oloyede’s lawyer, Lanre Ogunlesi (SAN), could not back with any evidence, the allegations of corruption made against the governor.
