Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys was one of the buzziest movies of 2018, and quite brilliant too, never mind that it was overlong and deprived one of a bathroom break. It was also a movie that had an imperious performance from Sola Sobawale, and featured rappers Reminisce and Ill Bliss in their Nollywood debut. King of Boys ended with a couple of twists – Odogwu Malay (Bliss) turning against Makanaki (Reminisce) and Alhaja Eniola returning to the throne and controlling affairs from the States.
It’s not that the movie needs a sequel. It doesn’t. But we are in an era where movies are constantly rebooted, with sequels upon sequels especially if the original installment was a crowd-pleaser. On Instagram, Adetiba teased a sequel for King of Boys, and it’s been getting a lot of people talking.
A King of Boys sequel can fully explore Alhaja Eniola’s life before the fame and influence, so basically a prequel. Still, the movie can move forward wherein our matriarch encounters more adversities as she exerts herself on the closely-knitted political oligarchy. A sequel is exciting, and I frankly I’m looking forward to it.
