Leicester City’s fairytale Champions League run ends with quarter-final defeat to Atletico Madrid

English Champions, Leicester City have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League.

Leicester played a 1-1 draw with Spanish side Atletico Madrid on Tuesday at The King Power Stadium to lose 2-1 on aggregate.

Atletico took the lead on the night in the 26th minute through Saul Niguez. Jamie Vardy pulled one back for The Foxes in the 61st minute.

Leicester needed to score two more goals to qualify for the semi-finals but were held by Diego Simeone’s men.

Atletico won the first leg at the Vincente Calderon via a penalty from Antoine Griezmann.

Tonight’s victory means that Atletico has qualified for the semi-finals of the competition three times in the last four years.

Leicester’s defeat has brought to an end a remarkable campaign by the English side who are playing in the competition for the first time in their history.

The second game on the night between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich is currently in extra time after Bayern Munich led 2-1 in full time to bring the aggregate to 3-3.
