Lord have mercy: Church closes after the pastor is arrested for drugs and violence

The Baypoint Community Church in Texas City is now going to be closed after the man leading the flock was accused of drug possession and violence against his own family.   Terry Gass was accused of pushing his girlfriend out of an SUV, which led the bank to foreclose on the property and take it all back.  This might be a surprising move by a financial institution, but it seems that the domestic violence incident was just the beginning of the pastor’s troubles.

The pastor was found in his SUV after the incident, where police took him into custody.  After bringing him in for booking, that’s when officers found cocaine in the man’s pocket.   The drug was wrapped on the inside of a dollar bill.  The pastor tried to hold it together at his church, claiming that he was going to take a temporary leave of absence.  That was when two of his associate pastors resigned from the church.

Pastor Gass is not the only preacher to be arrested, since it seems to happen all the time.  So, the question is whether or not a pastor has lost his authority to lead after he’s been arrested.  What do you think?
