A 40-year-old man has been arrested for raping and impregnating a 16-year-old mentally deranged girl.

The suspect, Abdulhamid Abbas was apprehended by operatives of the Jigawa State command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).

According to the NSCDC, the mentally challenged teenager had given birth to twin girls in her parents house.

Abdulhamid, a resident of Mijirgan Village of Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has however, not admitted to committing the crime.

The Commandant of the NSCDC in Jigawa, Gidado Muhammad, told journalists that the man had been arrested for impregnating an insane woman.

Muhammad added that the case was presently under investigation, and the suspect would soon be arraigned for prosecution.
