Mourinho says it will be alright if Chelsea finishes second in the league

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has claimed it will not be a failure if they finish second in the Premier League, despite bookmakers making them favourites to win.

The Portuguese is the only coach under Roman Abramovich, who was not sacked after enduring a trophyless season and is under immense pressure to win silverware this campaign.

But Mourinho is not very keen to promise the league title.

“It’s the only league in the world where four, five or six clubs are title contenders. Only one can win. Do the other five fail? I don’t think so.”

Mourinho has splashed out on Diego Costa, Felipe Luis and Cesc Fabregas, while allowing David Luiz, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku, but believes he has a team that can fight for the title.

“If the team finishing first is better than us — if we are very good but somebody is better than us — that’s football. That’s not a failure. The only thing you can do is be good.

“We have to be good, we have to better than last season as a team, the quality of our game, in everything we have to be better.

“We have to fight for the title and after that if somebody is really better than us, it’s because they were fantastic.”
