Nigerians hail ‘Eagle Wings’ trailer, demand more from Nollywood

The Nigerian Film Industry, Nollywood, as it is fondly called, is one of the largest in the world with an estimated annual production of 2700 movies.

Ranked third just behind Hollywood and Bollywood, the industry appears to have been underrated for a while, following the mass production of low budget movies which are even underrated by its primary audience. However, in a fresh Twitter trend, Nigerians are hailing the efforts put into making a new military-themed movie – Eagle Wings

Exploring the trailer, Nigerians are demanding that Nollywood not only invest in the movies they make but to also tell stories that actually matter. Many appreciated that the movie addressed the issue of insurgency which has become a nightmare in parts of the country, especially in Northern Nigeria.

Other Twitter users who jumped on this trend also appreciated the Nigerian Air Force who had a hand in the project, stressing that there was an actual story to tell, unlike many highly rated movies which often turn out to be basic. Exploring the trailer, many noted that they anticipate the release of the movie.

For some however, while it is good to celebrate the movie, it is yet to match up with Hollywood standards, stressing that Nollywood has a long way to go before they arrive at that point. They were equally criticised for their opinion, noting that it is a progressive journey.
