Shielding of witnesses: Nnamdi Kanu’s trial adjourned for 3 weeks

The trial of Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu, which was scheduled to continue on Tuesday, has been adjourned.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and two others are standing trial for alleged treason.

Kanu’s counsel, Chuks Muoma applied for stay of proceedings pending the hearing and determination of the appeal challenging the ruling which gave the Federal Government the green-light to shield witnesses during the course of the trial.

Justice James Tsoho acquiesced to his demand and therefore adjourned ruling on the stay of proceedings to April 26.

Federal High Court in Abuja, had on March 7, granted the request of the Federal Government seeking to shield witnesses lined up to testify against Kanu.

The federal prosecutor had stated that the witnesses said they were being threatened by associates of the accused persons and that they would only testify if they were assured of their personal safety.
