In spite of the ruling of a Federal High Court on Monday barring the Peoples Democratic Party from holding its convention, Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has the event will go on as scheduled.
On Monday, two Federal High Courts had given different rulings on the party’s forthcoming convention.
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Hacourt had earlier in the day validated the convention and mandated the Police and Department of State Services to provide security during the event.
This was after the party’s National Convention Planning Committee Secretary, Senator Ben Obi, had approached the court to refrain the police, DSS and the Independent National Electoral Commission from interfering in the successful conduct of the national convention.
However, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had suspended the convention from holding.
The court ruled that there was a pending interlocutory injunction filed by the Ali Modu-Sheriff led faction which must be heard and decided before the convention could hold.
Markarfi has however, said the order was not superior to the order the party received from Port Harcourt earlier in the day giving permission to hold the convention.
The former governor said the Court of Appeal will settle the issue later.
He said, “The convention is going ahead as the Abuja Federal High Court is not superior to the Port Harcourt Federal High Court which earlier today gave us the go ahead. Court of Appeal will sort it out “
