Nigerian big men and women also known as VIPs, who are not entitled to police escorts and security personnel, would soon lose them.
The Police has said that it would soon begin the enforcement of the presidential directive on withdrawal of security personnel attached to Very Important Personalities who are not entitled to their services.
The police plans to deploy a high level monitoring team to the nation’s airports, highways and other public places to arrest policemen found with dignitaries who are not entitled to their services.
A statement was released to this effect by the Police Service Commission on Tuesday.
The statement by the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said that any erring VIP or policeman caught in such unauthorized beat would be prosecuted.
“The PSC Chairman said the Commission and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force will enforce the presidential directive to the letter; henceforth only authorised government officials and VIPs will be entitled to police security,” the statement said in part.
