Presidency plans to arrest Ekweremadu, PDP ex-governors – PDP senators

The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over plans by the Presidency to arrest Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and former PDP governors.

Spokesman of the Caucus, Enyinanya Abaribe read a statement on Wednesday at a briefing with Senate Correspondents.

Abaribe condemned the move saying Nigeria is not prepared to head back to the days of late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha.

They also condemned the arrest of Ex-Governors Sule Lamido of Jigawa state and Babangida Aliyu of Niger State for corruption charges.

According to the senators, the charges are all cooked up against the PDP leaders.

The opposition senators also said plans are on to plant weapons, ammunition and cash in residences and vehicles of Ekweremadu, PDP ex-governors.

They promised a political showdown if the intercepted intelligence document is implemented by security agencies controlled by the presidency officials.
