4 reasons we think the EFCC had to let its Twitter handler go

Yesterday, the EFCC let it’s brilliant Twitter handler go and the most interesting thing to come out of the news – apart from learning that the handler, simply identified as @FShawKingfisher, is a musical act – were the immediate reactions of Nigerians on Twitter.

The prevalent belief was that the EFCC sacked the young man and Nigerians came armed with reasons. One person even said it’s because, as handler, he tweeted “Life is Gucci” last week. And F.Shaw Kingfisher himself has had to correct one of the big media houses that wrote an article saying he only served with the anti-graft agency.

Now, we could not help join in on the fun. We have taken five stabs at reasons why the EFCC might have come to the conclusion that letting the brilliant young man go would be a good idea.

1. The EFCC is being shut down

Considering all of the tension between the Presidency and the National Assembly over Ibrahim Magu and his continued leadership of the leading anti-graft agency in Nigeria, it would not be too far-fetched to consider the fact that EFCC may be getting shut down soon by the ‘hyenas and jackals’.

There’s also the Financial Intelligence Unit that’s being clamoured for in legislative quarters which may or may not overshadow the EFCC. It’s not impossible that the EFCC is already downsizing ahead of a possible shut-down.

2. He was sacked

Some “insiders” have claimed that he sacked for “stepping on the wrong toes” and in our country, that, of course cannot be discounted.

3. He tweeted the wrong thing

Remember that time the Vanguard handler tweeted something about sex and orgasm at midnight? Maybe FShaw did something similar?

Although we have to say that we believe he’s smarter than that. Maybe a slip more along the lines of posting “Life is Gucci”? But who gets sacked for that?

4. Music is poppin’

FShaw as we have learnt has had a long career in music and as the Information Minister Lai Mohammed too has come to terms with the Creative (music) industry in Nigeria is booming. It’s the now-best-thing and FShaw may have just realized this and signed out of the anti-corruption crusade for greener pastures.
