The 2015 Academy Awards went down last night, and as usual, we were expecting to be wowed by all the haute-ness from the red carpet. Unfortunately, most stars phoned it in this year in terms of fashion. Our favourite look of the night was Marion Cotillard in a very unusual silhouette by Christian Dior Couture. Emma Stone also shone like the star she is in a chartreuse gown with a high slit.

Stars who we always watch out for like Cate Blanchett, Kerry Washington, and Lupita Nyong’o disappointed in somewhat boring looks. Kerry looked like a chief bridesmaid while Lupita’s custom Calvin Klein dress (made with over 6000 pearls) failed to get the effect it was trying to achieve. Viola Davis went for a giant ball gown for a very queen-like moment, but killed an alright look with a dramatic necklace. Succeeding with her ballgown was Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen. The colour was gorgeous on her and she wasn’t overwhelmed by the dress.

The night’s biggest flop look was worn by Solange. The incredibly stylish singer failed to impress in a bright orange poloneck gown that completely swallowed her up and did nothing for her figure.

Jennifer Lopez looked elegant in Elie Saab, but shockingly, Robert Duvall’s wife, Nancy, wore the same dress. Eeek!

The general consensus is that everyone played it a bit too safe this year. See all the red carpet photos below:
