Reps urges FG to promote late Abu Ali, 6 other soldiers

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to promote late Lt. col Muhammed Abu Ali to the rank of a Colonel.

The lower chamber also asked the government to promote 6 other soldiers who died during the the attack by Boko Haram in Mallam Fatori.

The motion was sponsored by Abdussamad Dasuki.

Dasuki also said the late hero’s wife should be offered automatic employment while his children be granted scholarships up to University level.

He also urged the government to accelerate the payment of all entitlements of the fallen soldiers to their families.

House Minority Leader, Leo Ogor while speaking said Abu Ali served Nigeria with patriotism.

He said, “He proved that in any capacity, you can serve the nation with great enthusiasm and commitment.”

Nicholas Ossai, representing Delta State said the death of the soldiers was unfortunate.

He said, “Ali became a nemesis to the Boko haram, but his triumphs over the group’s plot to stop him only made him braver in the battlefield.

“It could be recalled that Ali’s exceptional gallantry earned him accelerated promotion from Major to Lt. Col in September 2015.

“Having paid the highest price in defence of one’s nation, the question that should come to haunt Nigerians is a befitting way to immortalise such valour.”
