#RioOlympics2016: Nigeria’s tennis star, Oshonaike crashes out

The hopes of Nigeria’s table tennis, Olufunke Oshonaike to win a medal at the Rio Olympics has been dashed after she lost 2-4 to Puerto Rican Adriana Diaz during a first round game of the Women Table Tennis event.

Oshonaike started as the favourite after taking the lead 2-0 but the Puerto Rican came back to take the day.

The tennis player had earlier today defeated Lebanese, Mariana Sahakian 4-3 at the preliminaries to qualify for the first round.

However, Nigeria’s Chierika Ukogu who is representing the country in the Women’s single rowing event has qualified for the quarter-finals of the event.

Ukogu finished third with a time of 8:35:34 behind Austria’s Lobnig Magdalena who came first with a time of 8:26:38 and Czech’s Topinkova Miroslava in second with a time of 8:29:90.

Ukogu is  currently ranked 15th after the heats.
