The Nigerian Senate has reacted to the criminal charges preferred against the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and his Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, describing it as a threat to the unity of Nigeria and the legislature.
Among the Senators who voiced their opposition to the charges against the presiding officers of the senate is Senator Dino Melaye.
Melaye raised a point of order on the “imminent threat to Nigeria’s democracy and against the principal officers of the Senate.”
This spurred other Senators to voice their opposition against the charge.
Melaye’s motion was seconded by Senator Bassey Akpan even as other Senators rose to the motion, condemning the executive arm of government, especially the Attorney General of the Federation with Melaye.
According to the Nigerian Senate Twitter handle, Melaye said:
