Shiite killings: There’s tension in Kaduna and this is what we know thus far

The protest march by Shiite Muslims in Kaduna state has resulted in a charged atmosphere in parts of the state, specifically Kaduna town.

The protest, currently going on in Tudun Wada and Kawo areas of Kaduna town, has forced traders and offices to close for the day.

People are reported to be running for safety as businesses have been shut down while traffic gridlock is currently building-up.

The protests against Saturday’s killing of their members in Zaria by the Nigerian Army, is coming on a day when a photo surfaced on the internet, depicting their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky, looking battered and bloody.

Zakzaky is being held in a secret location by the Nigerian Army, hence the protest of the members of his group, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, eye-witnesses have reported on social media that there’s been several cases of casualties in the state capital.

A Shiite member was allegedly shot dead at the North Gate of Ahmadu Bello University by three policemen as he wrestled a gun from one of them.

Similarly, the Kaduna State Polytechnic which is close to Tudun Wada, has been reportedly shut down as a result of the protests.
