The Punch Newspapers didn’t pull punches when they implied, in one of their cartoons, that the Federal Government is also part of the kidnapping ‘business’.
A caricature of President Goodluck Jonathan torturing a journalist with the caption, “Journalist, are you ready to reveal your source of the story,” says a lot about what the newspaper sees as an infringement on the freedom of the press.
Leadership Newspapers staff, Tony Amoekedo and correspondent, Chibuzo Ukaibe were held for an extended period of time by security agents who accused them of publishing false reports. They were, however, released unconditionally on April 9.
