Did you know most of our celebrities follow the lemon diet to stay slim and beautiful? Follow in their footsteps by including this wonder fruit from the Mediterranean to fight weight gain.

1. Green tea:

Green tea not only helps in fighting major diseases, but also keeps your weight in check thanks to its antioxidant properties. The healthy beverage also has a compound called epigallocatechin, which boosts metabolism and reduces your appetite. But green tea should ideally be consumed without any milk or sugar. Brew your green tea properly as it is delicious on its own.

2. Brown rice:

Brown rice is nothing but unpolished rice. If eaten in moderate proportions, brown rice can help in weight loss. Neelanjana Singh says, “We Indians love our curries with rice. And since brown rice is considered healthy, most of us neglect the serving size. For best results, brown rice should be consumed with supplements high on fibre, for instance leafy vegetables.”

3. Yoghurt:

New studies show that yoghurt is an excellent weight loss food as it helps in burning fat around the tummy, and also speeds up your weight loss programme. But everything boils down to the type of milk used to prepare the yoghurt. Add nuts and avoid sugar to reap maximum results from your daily dose of yoghurt.

4. Fish:

It is a well-established fact that our body requires good fats, and what better way to include them in your diet than by eating fish. Fish is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat that is known to boost metabolism. A few common Indian varieties of fish that are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids are hilsa, catla (type of carp) and black pomfret.

Tip: Instead of deep frying your fish, have it baked or steamed to maximise your weight loss results.

5. Nuts and raisins:

When it comes to satiating our 3 pm hunger pangs, we almost swear by nuts and raisins. Although nuts are considered to be a healthy snack and an excellent weight loss food, it is advised that you don’t go overboard with them. Did you know that nuts and raisins are rich in calories and if consumed in large quantities may lead to weight gain?

6. Coffee:

If you did a quick survey around the workplace and asked your colleagues what their favourite weight loss food is, most of them would say coffee! But if you’re thinking café mochas and cappuccinos will help you in chasing your weight loss dream, then you are mistaken. Neelanjana Singh says, “Ditch the cream and sugar in your coffee as they are high in calories. The best form of coffee is espresso in this case.”

7. Lemon:

Did you know most of our celebrities follow the lemon diet to stay slim and beautiful? Follow in their footsteps by including this wonder fruit from the Mediterranean to fight weight gain. However, having lemonade prepared with lots of sugar is just going to defeat your weight loss exercise. A great way to keep the weighing scale happy is by adding the goodness of lemon to salad dressings.

8. Muesli:

Your packaged cereals such as muesli may seem like an excellent breakfast food. But, most of us fail to notice the sugar-coated nuts and raisins in them that do more harm than good. Check for details like these before picking up your groceries next month!
