Today’s Daily Brief: Buhari gives VP slot to Tinubu, Kwankwaso considers running for Senate, Buhari’s running mate may emerge from the South west, and more

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lost its bid to declare seats of the four ‘rebel’ governors that  defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, vacant.

In a ruling Friday, the court dismissed the suit against Governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano),  Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), and Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara).

Though PDP originally dragged five governors before the high court, however, following the impeachment of Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, his name was accordingly struck out from the suit.

Nigeria’s main opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has resolved to confine its search for a vice presidential candidate for the 2015 election to the country’s South West, a day after electing former military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari, as its flagbearer for the polls, those familiar with the matter have told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Buhari, from the North West, defeated four other contenders Thursday to emerge APC’s presidential candidate, set to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in February.

The former military ruler’s running mate is expected to come from southern Nigeria- one among South West, South East, and South South.

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according  TheCable, has conceded the slot picking  of his running mate to Bola Tinubu, national leader of the party.

This has in effect diminished the chances of Chibuike Amaechi, governor of Rivers state, who was all along tipped to be the vice-presidential candidate. Further discussions are going to be held this weekend, but a quick decision may not be reached.

The party still has up till December 18 to submit the name of the nominee to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State has said he might be heading to the Senate after failing to clinch the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential ticket Thursday.

Mr. Kwankwaso lost the party’s primaries to former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, despite a surprisingly impressive performance that saw him receive more party votes than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The governor said he might consider calls from his supporters to bid for a seat in the Senate in 2015. If he so decides, it would be after consultations, Mr. Kwankwaso said.

The immediate past Minister of State for Niger Delta, Mr. Darius Ishaku, has been declared the winner of the Taraba State governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ishaku emerged at the end of the governorship primary conducted on Thursday night at the PDP national secretariat, Abuja, under the watchful eyes of the national leadership of the party.

The primary was delayed for almost five days following the controversy over the zoning of the governorship and the list of delegates.

  1. I think is a wrong idea for APC to pick Bola Tinubu as a running mate to GMB, why? This is the reason, OBJ as already fix the idea of religion as regard to muslim-muslim ticket on low class literate christians going by this idealogy, for fact that religion should not be bases in building a greater Nation, but we are in multi-religions Nation so that should not be rule out. if APC continue with this agender of picking B A Tinubu which lagosian know for is imposition will be suprise at rate of which they will loss south west especially lagos state comes 2015 general election.
