#EndBadGovernance organisers declare three days to mourn slain protesters
The leaders of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria have announced that they would be taking three days off to mourn the loss of the slain innocent protesters across the nation.
The three days were set to begin on August 7 and will go on till August 9, 2024. The #EndBadGovernance and #EndHunger protest was initially slated to last the first ten days of August, starting from August 1 to August 10, which means the people might return on August 10 to make their voices heard by the Nigerian government one last time.
The #EndBadGovernance protest was a move to get the current political administration to listen to the people’s needs, as the government has been providing anti-people policies, which have only created a hole in the economy.
CBN auctions $876m to 26 banks
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has auctioned $876m to 26 eligible banks that partook in the CBN’s recent Retail Dutch Auction System.
The auction was carried out on August 6 to improve the market’s foreign exchange liquidity, alleviate demand pressure, and support price discovery in tandem with the CBN’s goals.
According to the statement signed by the Director, Financial Markets Department, Omolara Omofunde Duke, “A total bid valued at US$1.18bn was received from 32 Authorised Dealers Banks, of which, bids valued at US$876.26m from 26 banks qualified, while bids valued at US$313.69m from six banks were disqualified.”
Oil Marketers claim fuel queues may last longer than a week
Oil marketers have revealed their anxiousness about reopening filling stations in light of the lengthy fuel queues in the country, saying they will wait one more week before opening.
Under the banner of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the oil marketers were forced to shut down in many cities across the country due to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance Protest.
The marketers have promised, however, that they would prefer to wait out the storm completely and by next week, the long queues for petrol would have subsided, and Nigerians would no longer have to struggle for petrol.
D’Tigress lost to the USA team in the 2024 Paris Olympic quarterfinals
The Nigerian women’s basketball team D’Tigress suffered a massive defeat to the USA women’s basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics quarterfinals, taking them out of the medal race.
The game ended at a 74-88 point between D’Tigress and the USA team as the latter might be on the path of breaking a tie with the Olympic men’s basketball team with the most consecutive Olympic gold medal (1936-1968).
Unfortunately, the D’Tigress team will no longer participate in the battle for a gold medal as the USA team will move on forward to the semi-final, where they are set to play against Australia on August 9.

According to the public announcement made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the President expects that the newly appointed chairmen and members of the governing boards of these institutions will carry out their duties “effectively and creditably”.
